Text Box: Peer Parent Program: Peer Parents connect with parents of infants in their home. They bring toys, teach new activities, and help with making new friends. They welcome you to join in one or more of these special groups that meet at Family Gateway: Baby Day/Toddler Day Shan Yuan (Chinese Speaking Women’s Group) OW Women’s Empowerment Group (English Speaking Women’s Group) Uddan (Hindi speaking women’s group) Shelldale Community Entertainment Group (Chinese speaking) Text Box: For School-aged Children: There’s lots for young people to do at Family Gateway. Kids from kindergarten to Grade 12 can register for after-school and evening activities that are both fun and educational. Children develop leadership skills by being involved. Some activities include: Daily Breakfast Club After school activities Evening programs Leadership development Theme groups (science, music, reading, games, etc.) Camps: Summer, Winter, Holiday, March Break Karate program (for parents, too!) More Information Text Box: Community Development: Residents of Onward Willow come from all walks of life, many countries, and many points of view, and we have worked hard to build our neighbourhood. Residents make decisions on all levels at Onward Willow. As volunteers, we develop new skills that lead to jobs, more education, and a sense of pride in our neighbourhood. We organize and give out emergency food, clothes, furniture and household goods to families in need. The Onward Willow Centre and Family Gateway are great places to get experience to help with finding jobs and education. A fax machine, phones, and computers are available. More Information Text Box: Who We Are: Onward Willow-Better Beginnings, Better Futures is a neighbourhood program where we work together to enrich the quality of life for the Willow Road area neighbourhood. We want a community where every child is nurtured and cherished, has high self-esteem, is excited about learning, and is safe from harm. We have created many programs to support this vision. Some include: Parent Groups (Guelph Community Health Centre, FASAT Ontario) Women’s Groups (Women in Crisis) Prenatal Groups (Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Program, Public Health) Running and Reading Program (Willow Road Public School) And much more (ask for our detailed adult brochure) Text Box: Neighbourhood Group: The Onward Willow Neighbourhood Group meets the 4th Wednesday of the month at Family Gateway, starting at 5:00 PM for a light supper. This is a great way to find our what is happening, and we provide child care!
